Kiska Kitna Hisab — Expense Splitter & UPI Payment App

A full-stack Splitwise-inspired expense splitting application built with React, TypeScript, and Supabase (PostgreSQL Database & Auth). Features Row Level Security (RLS), greedy debt simplification algorithms, and instant UPI payment link & QR code generation for one-click settlements via GPay, PhonePe, and Paytm.

Kiska Kitna Hisab — Expense Splitter & UPI Payment App
Kiska Kitna Hisab is a full-stack group expense-tracking web application designed to simplify shared expenses for trips, flatmates, and group events. It solves the friction of tracking who owes what by combining real-time Supabase PostgreSQL cloud storage, user authentication (Email & Google OAuth), and an automated direct UPI payment link & QR code generator. Users can create expense groups, log itemised bills, view real-time balance calculations backed by Supabase database persistence, and immediately settle balances via any Indian UPI payment app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM).
  • Full-Stack Supabase Integration: Powered by Supabase for real-time PostgreSQL database storage, row-level security (RLS), and instant data synchronization across group members.
  • Supabase Authentication: Complete Login, Signup, and Google OAuth flow with persistent session management and secure profile settings.
  • Custom VPA / UPI ID Binding: Users can link their personal UPI IDs (name@upi) to their profile so settlement links dynamically target their account.
  • Itemised Expense Logging: Add group expenses, assign custom splits (equal, exact amounts, or percentage-based), and track shared balances in real time.
  • Instant UPI Payment Link & QR Generation: Generates direct upi://pay deep-links and scan-to-pay QR codes pre-filled with the exact settlement amount and recipient VPA.
  • Debt Simplification Engine: Greedy graph algorithms minimize the total number of transactions needed among group members to settle all debts efficiently.
  • Digital Paper Receipt UI: A retro-modern receipt UI theme with responsive micro-interactions built using Tailwind CSS.
  • React.js + Vite: Modern, ultra-fast frontend setup with fast HMR and optimized production bundles.
  • Supabase (PostgreSQL & Auth): Cloud database backend, user authentication, and Row Level Security (RLS) data policies.
  • TypeScript: Type-safe architecture ensuring reliable debt calculations and API data structures.
  • Tailwind CSS: Utility-first styling for responsive layouts and custom paper-receipt design tokens.
  • UPI Deep-Linking API & QR Generator: Seamless client-side payment URI formatting and QR matrix rendering.
  • Netlify: Continuous deployment pipeline with automated edge builds.
The application utilizes Supabase's relational PostgreSQL model with tables for profiles, groups, group_members, and expenses. Row Level Security (RLS) policies enforce that users can only view and modify expenses for groups in which they are authorized members. Calculating debt relationships across multi-member groups efficiently required designing a greedy debt simplification algorithm to eliminate cyclic balances (e.g. A owes B, B owes C -> A pays C directly). Cross-platform UPI deep links (upi://pay?pa=...&am=...&cu=INR) handle fallback behaviors across desktop web and mobile browsers smoothly. Kiska Kitna Hisab provides a frictionless, ad-free alternative to bloated expense trackers, combining secure Supabase cloud persistence with 1-click UPI payments to reduce group settlement times dramatically.
